I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland (public honors college) double-majoring in Film/Media Studies and Sociology/Anthropology. I also had two minors in Theatre; and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. While at St. Mary’s, I participated in several extra-curricular activates, recreational sports, and Student Government positions. I was an Orientation Leader for three years, a Student Ambassador for four years, was a member on the Dean’s Council, and was the student representative for the Department of Theater, Film, and Media Studies; and the Academic Curriculum Committee. I was a member on the fencing club and competed in several intercollegiate tournaments in both foil and sabre. I was also heavily involved in theatre– I worked in the scene shop for every main stage production, and acted in several productions. I received two Arts Alliance Awards for Excellence in Film in 2008 and 2009.
I have always had a passion for traveling and learning about international issues. In 2007-2008, I studied abroad in Northern India as part of a study tour with the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department titled “The Religions of India.” In 2008, I received the ASIANetwork Freeman Foundation Student-Faculty Program for Collaborative Research in Asia. On this grant, I traveled to Kyoto, Japan to learn traditional kyôgen theater. I performed kyôgen theater in the fall theatrical season at St. Mary’s College. Finally, I presented research findings at the 2009 ASIANetwork conference in Lisle, Illinois. I earned an Irene Ryan Acting Award nomination for my role in Looking for Taro Kaja: an Evening of Kyôgen Comedies.
In May 2012, I received my Master of Arts degree in International Media from American University in Washington, DC. The International Media program is an interdisciplinary dual-degree with both the School of Communication and the School of International Service. I have completed graduate level coursework in media writing, media production, marketing research methods, new media practices, media policy, foreign correspondence, and public communication. My masters thesis was a paper discussing the adaptation techniques for American remakes of foreign films.
While in grad school between 2009 and 2011, I worked as a video consultant for the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), a Washington, DC non-profit that provides aid to Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2010, I wrote and edited all the video used for PADF’s annual awards gala in Miami, FL. The video showcases not only PADF’s achievements, but is also used as marketing material to attract potential donors. In the summer of 2010, I traveled to the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Trinidad and Tobago with the organization to interview and shoot video for that year’s fundraising event. The Career Center at American University invited me to blog about my experience with PADF this summer as a paid blogger for their website to advertise internship opportunities to potential students.
PADF referred me to their affiliate, the Organization of American States (OAS) to do preproduction, production, and postproduction on a video project to commemorate the 50th year anniversary of the OAS Academic Scholarship Program. I shot video and interviewed former OAS scholarship recipients on location in Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago in the summer of 2010. I compiled interviews with over 20 former scholarship recipients and edited a 20 minute commemorative video that was shown at the joint session of the Permanent Council and the Permanent Executive Committee of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CEPCIDI) in October 2010. You can view the meeting and the presentation of the video here.
From 2011 to 2013, I worked part time as a Front of House Manager for Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center (CAC) at Silver Spring/Takoma Park. There I managed the box office for college sponsored events, sold tickets, co-administrated the CAC’s Twitter and Facebook pages, and performed office and marketing work as needed. I also supervised rental events, acting as a liaison between the college and the renting group.
In August 2014, I became an Election Judge for the Montgomery County Board of Elections. I worked the 2014 Gubernatorial Election and Early Voting. I was responsible for setting up and closing down pollbooks and voting units and counting ballots before and after election days. During the election, I assisted with voting operations—checking voters in the electronic pollbooks, issuing ballots, answering questions, and assisting voters at the voting units. In this capacity, I was also responsible protecting the integrity of the election process by ensuring all voters, watchers, challengers, electioneers, and other judges followed county laws and protocol.
While working on my master’s degree, I worked part-time as an intern at Acorn Media Group, a media distribution company specializing in distributing British television in the US. The company went through an organizational transition in 2012, and after graduation, I was promoted to full-time Product Development Assistant for the Acorn, Acacia, and Athena brands at the newly created RLJ Entertainment, and my responsibilities increased to project management for DVD and Blu-ray titles. I lead about 25 projects a year through the authoring process. I also assist with the quality control of our home video and digital titles—watching programs in real time to check for glitches or errors, and menu navigation and player compatibility checks. Last year, I became the coordinator for all digital metadata, which is submitted to our digital distribution partners, including Amazon, iTunes, and GooglePlay. I also am heavily involved in marketing—editing and reviewing trailers for upcoming titles, creating product art, as well as managing Pinterest accounts for the Acorn and Acacia catalogs and the Athena Facebook page.
I am a lover of all things media—professionally, academically, and personally. In my spare time, I like to watch (and talk about) movies and TV series, and I am active in social media. I also enjoy cooking and craft beers. I am currently studying Tang Soo Do and Jujitsu, and hold a first grade brown belt.
